A Helping Hand Is Right Around The Corner…
Daniel Hoyt - Jack of All Trades
I started picking up odd jobs for neighbors and members of my small town in rural Vermont when I was in middle school. I’d help with cutting grass, landscaping, splitting wood, building sheds and garden beds - you name it, I did it. This continued through high school and into college, where I pursued a career in the culinary arts. Even when I was behind the line in kitchens, running the culinary programs at high-end resorts, or coordinating 200+ guest catering functions, I was still Mr. Fix-it for friends, family, and colleagues.
COVID-19 changed my life, as it did for so many others. When the world shut down, so did my kitchen, and I realized that long days and late nights in restaurants were no longer what I wanted for myself and my family. This was solidified when my wife and I bought a fixer-upper home in the woods of Central Vermont in 2021. My downtime was spent renovating. Fixing. Building. Patching. Problem-solving. The house needed A LOT of work, but the challenge reignited my love of all things handy.
I left the restaurant industry after 20+ years and got a job at a local lumber yard and hardware store. Every day I see and interact with contractors, plumbers, electricians, and other professionals from whom I’ve learned an incredible amount of information. Most of all, I see countless DIY-ers who are handy, but need a helping hand here and there.
Hemlock Handy Services was born out of necessity for my community, and I am honored that Hemlock is trusted with their to-do lists every day. If you’re looking for someone to finish a job, start a project, or anything in between, I’m happy to be your helping handy man.
